Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, with over 493 million people using it as their native tongue, according to the Cervantes Institute. Moreover, it is the official language in 21 countries, and by learning it, would allow you to communicate with people from a wide range of countries across multiple continents. Beyond its beauty and its ability to connect us with diverse cultures in Latin America, Europe, Africa, and beyond, Spanish enables us to set and achieve new professional goals that may create opportunities in today’s globalized economy.
The demand for learning the language continues to grow, especially in regions such as the United States, Asia, and Europe. With a presence on four continents, and to a lesser extent in Oceania, Spanish is considered an official language in major international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), the Organization of American States (OAS), and even Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
We could say it is an ubiquitous language, as it is the second most used language on the internet and social networks, and the third most commonly used lingua franca for international communication.
When I first meet one of my students, I like to ask them: Why do you need to learn my language? Most of the time, their answers are very specific: for work, to travel, as a hobby. This is one of those questions with no right or wrong answers.
Using this information, I enjoy helping my students to open their minds and to understand that learning a language is a journey through a universe of vivid colors, fragrant smells, distinct flavors, momentous rhythms, ancient traditions, enchanting nature, and all of the associated emotions. Emotions that are expressed through the laughter of the people, the warmth of their demeanor, the force of volcanic lava, or the rhythm of the stars dancing to music that can only can only be experienced in Spanish.

I started studying Spanish with a lot of trepidation as I knew I did not have any inherent ability and struggled with pronunciation but I also knew traveling as a Spanish speaker would be a much more rewarding experience. Rocio was able to put me at ease early on in our classes together. She never gave me the impression that I was as hopeless student as I felt I was.
